Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course?
Yes, to get the necessary foundation for taking this exam, this course was absolutely worth the time, effort, and money.   Ken was fantastic and as anyone will soon learn, there is no single fool-proof resource to go by, it is a combination of resources. And not only does Ken point us in the direction of other well known (worthwhile) resources, but he actually breaks it down by domain. 
What have you learned from the program?
The CISSP secret to learning is 80% hard core study and 20% confidence building.  Security University has equipped me with both.

Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Yes, the study is a common body of knowledge and “the big picture” of how things work and a greater appreciation of security.

FYI: I attended the CISSP training at Security University last week and I wanted to give you the following feedback: 1) The facility in which the training was held proved to be a great learning environment. 2) The instructor, Ken Cutler is a very seasoned IT security professional who did a great job relating real world IT situations to the course curriculum.  He also provided the class with charts/diagrams that he designed to help students learn key concepts.  I have attended many IT training sessions over the years and I believe that Mr. Cutler is one of the best instructors that I have ever had.

What other types of training do you feel should be made available? The training on how to conduct a proper and rigorous Risk Assessment in both DOD and non-DOD environment. Also training with focus on effective Continuous Monitoring plan for an IT security program, i.e. a level above the Continuous Monitoring for individual IT systems.  

What have you learned from the program? I learned more about the best practices of Risk Assessment and of the overall Assessment and Authorization in the non-DOD environment. I also learned about the difference of the A&A steps in the DOD vs non-DOD.

Ken is an excellent instructor, he makes the material completely digestible and while I can understand completely understand his narrative, CISSP is a challenge because I have to go back and read things w more calm. I have enjoy myself learning the extensive material though challenging Ken makes things easy to understand and enjoyable.

Nothing more to add to class, there were a lot of training aids and recommendations given to ensure success on the certification. Ken is a great instructor. His real world experience helps relate difficult topics into a better way of understanding. He is very knowledgeable on the topic and I would definitely take another course with him.

A tremendous level of new knowledge.  Ken Cutler is a gifted instructor who describes highly technical terms and concepts in a way every student can understand.  Fundamentally, our cyber security professionals across the GIG are such highly intelligent practitioners.  Making all those billions of packets arrive and sort on time across heterogeneous platforms takes Supra Brain Bytes!  Ken’s knowledge is a National Asset and Treasure.  NOBODY in America knows as much as Ken

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course? Currently well executed on all levels.  In particular, our instructor Ken Cutler is the best I’ve ever experienced.  He takes his responsibilities super serious, makes himself available at all times, always respectfully answers student questions, runs a tight ship (while keeping group spirits high), and his tireless commitment shows each day. Having been a longtime adjunct professor at a local graduate school, I must say that there is no other person in cyber security with such a vast range and depth of knowledge.  He gives 110% every moment!  Ken is Supra intelligent.  I look forward to taking my CISSP class with Ken.  I know what it takes for class preparation, class administration, curricula delivery and handling student needs.  Ken does it all.  He puts in mega hours to deliver so much value.  So very committed Ken is.        

What have you learned from the program? Having passed the Security+ exam over 4 years ago, the current curriculum is clearly more challenging. 

Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Yes, although CompTIA must do a much better job in producing question narratives, especially longer lead-in problem statements and how many graphic/”video” questions there are.  Every question must be very clear, succinct, and have zero chance for misinterpretation.  There are some questions which may have more than one answer ONLY because the lead-in narrative can be interpreted more than one way.  If we knew what the question designer was thinking, then the correct answer becomes more obvious.  Also, to emulate what everyone would do in the workplace anyway, especially upon starting a new job, suggest each exam include a glossary of all acronyms.     

Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course? Yes.  I put in 15 hour days, just to avoid the commuter traffic in DC….up at 4 or 430AM every morning.  Nice to have coffee and pastries available at 630AM.

Given that my IT background and years in the field is very small, I would not be able to say what improvements I would do. As I believe this is most technical, challenging course I have taking, and I have taken extraordinarily challenging classes. For me the course was challenging but rather enjoyable. The material quantity is horribly extensive but Ken broke it up in way that made things easy to understand for me. Everything I had a fuzzy idea of, but now I can see the picture much clearer than before. The test seemed random and the questions were wordy. Almost as intentionally promoting confusion. Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course? ABSOLUTELY. Is there anything else you would like us to know?  I had a wonderful experience as a student being instructed by Ken, as he is extremely knowledgeable, makes the course quite comprehensive.

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course? Overall, the class was very well taught and the instructor covered the topics very well. I am not sure that there is much that I could say needs to be improved with class, besides the personnel taking the class being more prepared for the broad range of topics that are covered during the training
Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course?  The instructor was very committed to covered the topics of CASP in detail. I don’t believe that I could have had a better investment than what I received during the week. The only thing that might have been of benefit for me is if the course would have been a two week course. Is there anything else you would like us to know? I believe that I have the material that I need to further my education in CASP, but I am definitely looking at other courses that will allow me to further my education

What have you learned from the program? Building stamina to read, answer and pass the exam. The big thing was training my mind to de-select wrong answers before focusing in on the correct answer in multiple choice exams.

What have you learned from the program? I learned a lot more about the 8 domains of CISSP. I had some exposure to them during my graduate degree program at Carnegie Mellon University and over the years through continuing education with the Project Management Institute (PMI) and Information System Audit and Control Association (ISACA), but it was good to explore the topics in greater detail.

Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Yes, and I know that I still have a lot of studying to do. I have to be exposed to material several times before it takes hold and I really truly comprehend it.

Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course? Yes, I think that this has giving me a good foundation for CISSP. I understand where my weaknesses are and where I need to focus my study efforts.

Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Absolutely, the instructor has demonstrated a framework for passing this exam that I believe is bullet proof, it’s just a matter of following the instructions.

Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course? Absolutely, the course and knowledge gain was priceless.

I just wanted to say thanks for the class. Friday morning I passed my CISSP. Glad to finally get it done. Once again, I think the class helped me prepare a lot for that exam. - I thought the boot camp was an excellent way to prepare for the test. Ken was an awesome instructor who was capable of pairing his vast experience to drive home critical concepts for the exam.

Now we need to get my guard unit to get us more training... :)

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course The course materials flow well and the instructor is amazing with his teaching skills and knowledge of the material.  The practice tests have a few bugs in them that I passed along to the instructor but overall the pool of questions were excellent.
What have you learned from the program? Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability?
The course and materials provided did an excellent job preparing me for the exam and gave me more insight into cyber security.  My experience is in the DOD world and the instructor provided a lot of his experience in the commercial world.

Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course? I got an excellent return on my investment.  I spent many hours outside of class preparing and going over the course materials and practice questions and homework assignments.

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course?  The course was great I wouldn’t really change a thing Mr Cutler is a great teacher and he covered a lot of information in the time we were given.  I know there isn’t much time for actual hands on with the different types of malware and errors but in my opinion a mock hands on lab would be great to put some of the teaching into action so its not just written information but some of the tools used to counter threats could be actually seen and put into practice.   This could be something done after class if the class is interested just as an option. 

What have you learned from the program?   I learned that I wasn’t as abreast with Cyber Security as I thought and from the first time I had taken a Security+ course how much things change have changed.

Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability?  The test did go over most of the topics that Mr Cutler pointed out to us during the course but the test and wording of some of the questions can be confusing and Mr Cutler pointed that out during the lessons how much the test changes weekly.  He (Mr Cutler) is experienced with dealing with corporations which gave me a different perspective on how private sector does things as opposed to the government

Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course?  Yes Is there anything else you would like us to know?  I really enjoyed the course and I would love to attend another course with Security University and you have my recommendation as professionals in Cyber Security for DMV.  I will definitely recommend your school at my next employer for those needing to get their initial Security Certs or as in my case a “do over” because of how much things have changed in the four years that I initially took my first Security+ class and exam.

I learned and got to personally test a sample methodology for conducting penetration tests of networks. While the course focused primarily on testing from an external perspective, it also allowed the user to read through what internal testing would look like. It reviewed the most common tools used to conduct testing.Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Yes, once the report is complete and I receive feedback I expect to feel prepared to take on my own form of penetration testing.

This training was excellent. I believe in order for a student to become more proficient a lab setup guide could be provided so the student could build a home lab.

What have you learned from the program? A much greater familiarity with Kali Linux, scanning tools and exploit methods that I was not familiar with.  As well provided a lot of resources to further my knowledge.  More in depth knowledge of protocols MD

Some of the course material/handouts had typo’s but the instructor has been on top of them and has gone into the master file and updated them. Were there other learning objectives you wanted to get out of this weeks course?

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course? Catering for lunch, even if it increased the cost of the course.
What have you learned from the program? Having been in this field for a while, and quite familiar with the subject matter, I was pleasantly surprised with how much there still is to learn. This course has opened my eyes to a larger world of Information Security. The practice tests were so focused, and inclusive that I felt absolutely confident when taking the test. As an educator, I found this course doubly rewarding. Ken Cutler is, in a word, fantastic. Not only did he teach me a great deal about the “Security +” subject matter, but also about how to present the material in an engaging, thorough, and enjoyable manner. Though challenging, this course was a wonderful reality check on the field, and current practice. Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Yes. Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course? Absolutely

What other types of training do you feel should be made available?  Like the ones you offer.  Would love a hands on lab as continuing education in which you could practice systems security and vulnerability testing and reporting.

Nothing really the course set up was perfect for what I needed to learn about the subject matter. What have you learned from the program?

Everything I needed to know to perform my job better and understand how the how system works. Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Yes Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course? Yes

If possible, I would have liked to perform actual simulations on course material, but there was not enough time to add such an endeavor. The course was fine as is. What have you learned from the program?   I learned the most about ports and networking, but I also received a much clearer understanding of the entire process by which computers communicate with each other and the internet. Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability?    No. I feel the exam is somewhat impractical for actual security knowledge. Ken did a great balance of teaching to the test but explaining real-world security concepts. Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course?   Yes I did. I learned more in the first two days of this course than I did during my college-level networking class.

What other types of training do you feel should be made available?   After reading the list of courses offered, I am not entirely sure what else could be missing. I do believe, however, Ken would be fantastic at teaching a course on auditing.

Is there anything else you would like us to know?   Ken is a fantastic instructor. He explained concepts effectively and succinctly while maintaining time to explain how concepts applied to a real business environment. I feel Ken could teach me so much more than Security+.

I'm going to be honest with you, I had such a good experience with Ken and this class that I would be hard pressed to find something that I wanted more of or could improve. Not once when I went home did I think to myself, “Gosh I wish we had x” or “Darnnit they didn't do y”.

What have you learned from the program? I was looking forward to learning more about types of attacks, malware, and cryptography and I was not let down. I came to the class with networking knowledge but I definitely built on it. The physical and occupational security portion of the exam I knew was necessary but I wasn't really looking forward to it. The way Ken presents the material however made it really interesting and I really enjoyed learning the material from him. I'm really glad that I had the opportunity to learn that material from someone like Ken because if I did CBT's and self studies it would have put me to sleep.
Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Yes, without a doubt.

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course?  It was a lot of course material – it seemed more than CISSP.  The material was broad – covering many topics.  It will be interesting to see what the test reveals.

What have you learned from the program?   VDI, etc.  Since this is an advanced security course, more SEIM and possibly some current appliances that are deployed on a network (more than just NIPS, NIDS, etc).  Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability?  To be determined. Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course?  I believe so.  If anything, it was a great refresher on many topics.

What other types of training do you feel should be made available?  For people who want to become ISSE or ISSO or even a cyber analyst perhaps we could have a SEIM bootcamp; firewall bootcamp; Bluecoat; etc.  There are some large network security firms around here – many sell their wares around here; perhaps SU could be an extension and teach for them?

There is a lot of CISSP material to absorb in 5 days, I do not think that can be helped. It would be nice if the reading materials were send out 3 – 4 weeks in advance so that students could get a bigger head start on the material. What have you learned from the program?

I learned a lot more about the 8 domains of CISSP. Yes, I think that this has giving me a good foundation for CISSP. I understand where my weaknesses are and where I need to focus my study efforts.

I think that Security University offers a great deal of training. It needs to promote itself more through professional associations like the Project Management Institute, Information System Audit and Control Association, Healthcare Information Management Systems Society, Workgroup for Electronic Data Exchange to promote more of the training programs that are offered.

Is there anything else you would like us to know?

Thank you for encouraging me to attend the CISSP class and to pursue a career in the field of information technology. I appreciated the advice and mentorship from Sondra and Ken.

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course?
I think that some videos interspersed through the course – especially on some of the complicated subjects might help. Perhaps as either stuff to watch before it is discussed in class or even in class may help in a few areas. May also give the instructor a little of a break ( not that it shows it is needed – but as a student it may be a little refreshing an I would think as an instructor, a nice short break. Not sure how you do it – but Ken has a lot of stamina!

Without a doubt. This is far more then a “certification” class. I can honestly say I am leaving this experience a better security professional then when I started.

The next thing I need to learn, as part of my career development is SQL and database security. I have a lot more then that that I want to learn as part of my career progression. Speaking greedily I wish Security University would offer these through Ken.
Is there anything else you would like us to know?
I would like both Sondra and Ken know that I'm eternally grateful for this opportunity. When I met Sondra at the security conference I thought the fact that I was the lucky recipient of a course was too good to be true. After going through the experience, I was dead wrong. Personally speaking this is something that is going to improve my quality of life and career and for that I'm really grateful. As for the course itself I couldn't be happier. I'm not just pandering here. I have taken courses with New Horizons in Arlington and with SourceFire in Columbia Maryland. I would NEVER take a course with either again that an employer didn't require me to. Here's the difference, the two that I mentioned did NOT teach me anything. They were just trainers rather then teachers. A trainer just reads to me from a book, uses the approved slides and can't answer all of my questions as they come up in class and I'm trying to comprehend the material. That NEVER happened during this class. Ken can and enjoys teaching, when I had a question he was not only able to answer it to my satisfaction then and there so I but also relate it to real world experience so that I finished the conversation knowing the answer to my question.

What have you learned from the program? I learned that if you do not continuously stay up to date with your skill set, you fall behind way too fast. I also learned that I want to take more wireless security courses to pursue the direction of my career that I have chosen. Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? After taking the exam and seeing my results, I feel that it was great indicator of combining what I already knew and putting it together with a whole higher level of new knowledge in a logical and productive way. Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course?

I feel I received an outstanding return. The time I invested in the course and test was very productive, and the outcome of that time spent will be very valuable in my future. What other types of training do you feel should be made available? After looking through your catalog, I cannot think of anything at this time. I will keep my eyes open for new technologies and ideas that present themselves. Is there anything else you would like us to know? Just to keep up the outstanding offerings, to give people the opportunity to excel in their chosen fields.

Ma'am, I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to attend the CWNA Q W/P course.  I learned quite a bit, and it also re-enforced what I already knew but didn't realize.  I passed with 83%.   Kevin is an outstanding instructor.  I was a bit apprehensive about if I was ready for the test, but the information he presented during the week in class was done in such a way, that I actually learned it, and didn't realize how much I retained until I was on my own(Testing).  Will a certificate be generated?  I was going to forward it up to my management. Anything that would allow more time for practice questions would have been helpful, but I appreciate the heavy use of practice questions to assess readiness to sit for the exam. What have you learned from the program? Learned how the CISSP common bodies of knowledge are organized, their content, how the test is structured around those CBK's, how to approach different types of questions, the need to pay close attention to the subtle differences between answers, especially when the question is asked “backwards.” Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Yes, though I will have to be very careful with the unusual wording of some questions. Really appreciate keeping practice questions available to class participants beyond completion of the class so we can assess our readiness to take the exam! This class gave me the tools to carry the ball the rest of the way; namely, continue my review and practice questions until my practice scores are high enough to take the actual exam.
Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course?
Yes, (a) Knowing exactly what I need to study and review further before taking the exam, (b) Looking forward to going into the CISSP exam much better prepared, and (c) Looking forward to my CISSP cert opening up more job opportunities since the cert is increasingly required for federal DoD contractors… As our CISSP instructor, Ken Cutler was outstanding!!! Ken's deep knowledge of the exam subject matter, the types of exam questions, the subtle differences between answers, and the "best answer" approach enabled participants to complete the course with some excellent test-taking strategies. In short, Ken was outstanding, and I would recommend others who want to be thoroughly prepared to take the CISSP to make sure he is teaching the class when they enroll.

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course? With the sheer amount of information, understanding the difficulties of the logistics, I think the course being 2 weeks would allow the gained knowledge to sink in on a more permanent basis. What other types of training do you feel should be made available? The full range of courses pretty much fills what I feel are most the needs of someone who plans to have a career as a fully qualified Security Professional. Were there other learning objectives you wanted to get out of this week's course? My objectives were completely met in this course. This knowledge will allow me to progress in my career, and ease movement into a more security related field. What have you learned from the program? This program provides a significant amount of material that needs to be absorbed within an intense period of time. I feel this is the perfect method to challenge an individual who may have become complacent in their career. Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? I think the final exam will at least be an indicator as to how quickly I was able absorb at least the majority of the presented material.

Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course ? I have received an outstanding return on the time and effort invested in this course. I am going to become an adhoc sales staff to all of my professional contacts in the IT world, referring them to Security University. I fully believe in the mission and goals of SU

Is there anything else you would like us to know?

As I said previously, I am completely comfortable becoming an unofficial sales staff. To get the word out in my world. I also would like to continue to expand my skill set, and knowledge gained by attending SU courses. So far I have not had an instructor that was anything less than outstanding.

Were there other learning objectives your wanted to get out of this weeks course? There are none that come to mind, but I'm always interested in real-world applications and situational awareness of what's out there. We had an adequate amount and time was limited due to the volume of material to cover. Morrow did illustrate some other approaches and applications that were “out there” for us to consider/research if interested. Helpful to me to just know the names of other products and the quick pros and cons. Learned a lot from Morrow. An incredibly knowledgeable and patient instructor.
Is there anything else you would like to know? No, but do want to comment on the professionalism, work ethic, and incredible knowledge that Morrow presented to all of us. I could spend weeks shadowing him just to learn “how it's really done”. I asked frequent questions about theoretical application as well as real examples. While I'm sure this extended the time in class, it was invaluable to me and he commented that this was part of the value of this course. We never got far off topic as a group. I can read numerous books and would never gain anywhere near the knowledge I learned from Morrow and from other class participants. This course was not taught by someone with theoretical knowledge, but by an expert who has extensive, real-world experience. A little more separation in regards to the Federal and DoD standards. I also understand that we are currently in a transition from DIACAP to RMF, so the concerns about those subjects getting mixed up will be an issue until RMF completely takes over. What have you learned from the program? Several things, first being, knowing where to look for the information on the controls and their descriptions. Second, there is a lot of redundant information and with RMF the goal is to help minimize this issue. 1. do you think it would have been better to do the Qualified Ethical Hacker class before this class? Yes, I talked to a couple of the other students who took Q|EH prior to the class and from what they told me I think that would be a great prerequisite class if you are starting out. I had some knowledge from my Bachelor's classes I took, but that was 2 years ago. 2. could you have learned that information in another way to better prepare you for class, now that class is over?  Most of the  material I found you had to pay for and it ranged from a couple hundred to over a thousand, these were video training or online. I never found any training that was free to get. I hope this is helpful. I really enjoyed the class and it was one of the best I've attended for Instructor knowledge and hands on training. What have you learned from the program? There are a lot of things and domains that I don't cover on a normal basis that are covered in the CISSP and it was great to learn about them as well as hear “real world stories” about how they are used and implemented. Also to have an “auditor's view” of the process, controls, and other normal practices, I believe I will be better prepared for what the test may have in store for me.
Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Sort of. As with many industry exams, sometimes it accurately reflects the real world, other times, it's as far “off base” as possible, covering data and practices that haven't been used in industry for over 6 years.

What, if anything, would you have improved on the course? Hindsight being 20/20, maybe requiring students to take so many practice exams in each domain PRIOR to the actual class. As it was, it was “optional” for students to take any of the practice exams. By requiring maybe one 25-question practice per domain, I think that students would be forced to actually take the contents more seriously
What have you learned from the program? It was a great condensed refresher! Being in management, I had not seen a lot of the items in about 6-8 years. Also, learned a lot more about the various protocols and access matters than before.
Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? Overall, I think the test was a decent assessment, but there were a few questions or topics on the actual test and some of the practice exams that were not covered by the course slides/materials. They were relatively minor, and most did not show up on the actual test.

I want to share my review of my CISSP Bootcamp training experience, and why I chose to attend Security University in Herdon, VA.

I visited in-person a few schools and talked to the owners prior to making a final decision. I considered price, location, and what I discerned as the best classroom environment and the preparedness of the school for this type of training.

I decided on Security University in Herndon, VA, for the following reasons, and  why I feel they excel over other schools . The advertised class instruction rates are better than others, and their curriculum support is far better for those rates.   Also, as soon as I was registered, they provided eBooks that are better than some of the other books recommended by other schools. They also connected me to their on-line practice exam site right away to try some tests before the beginning of this 5-day training period. No other school I talked to had this feature. I was also able to get some questions answered by the school owner, Sondra Schneider, in preparation for that week.

The class instructor for the week I attended, Ken Cutler, was really excellent. The teaching environment and other facilities at their school were wonderful and supportive. The attendance was around 10, where they like to keep the classroom size intimate yet engaging. 

I felt this was the best choice, and it proved to be so - I do not think I'd have had as good an experience, nor be as confident afterward, if I had chosen another training school .

Security University has been a very good experience for me. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone who asks me.

What have you learned from the program? I have learned techniques necessary to secure and defend the entire network. I have also learned how to see and defend attacks.Do you feel that the final exam will effectively test what you have learned and your underlying ability? I think the test will accurately test what I have learned in this training.

Did you get a good return on the time invested in the course? Yes. This class has put together all the different aspects of an enterprise network and provides the necessary training to defend the whole network and not a just one piece of the network, i.e. network work defense, server defense, work station defense.

What other types of training do you feel should be made available?

Incident response, incident response management, and possibly the legal side of defending and protecting the network, i.e. the right to privacy, consent to monitoring, and the legality and role of IT staff when it comes to investigations. RHeflin

Like to thank Security University and Ken Cutler for helping me finally pass my CISSP. I tried twice self study unsuccessfully. I finally realized that I needed someone to help change my outlook on how to approach the test. Ken helped get me out of the weeds and focus on what is important to pass the test. This course was more hands on than the EC Council CEH course I took 4 yrs ago. I learned 300% more knowledge from this course. Personal preference to change the course would be have a culmalative lab that follows the flow of the system hacking methodology and ties it all together agaisnt a simlulated ISP/target network. I think a lab of this sort would help bring home the full picture of what/when/how to apply the concepts and tools especially for those new to the content

Just wanted to pass along a note to state that I enjoyed the June 20-24 CISSP class in Reston VA.  My wife bought a ton of post-it notes and I did my own “Hollywood Squares” that Ken used in the classroom on a wall in my basement when I returned home.  I read over the material numerous times from the class, read the majority of the Official ISC2  Harold Tipton e-book and then read the 11 th Hour CISSP book the night before the exam and I passed!   I took the exam July 9 th in Baltimore City.  Thanks for providing a great class and a foundation of material to study for.  I knew I would have to study outside the classroom to pass this exam and all the hours invested paid off.  I hope to come down again next year for another class! -C. I wanted to comment on the class: The content was excellent. My attempt the last year to learn the Risk Management Framework (RMF) from NIST was a little challenging to say the least. The class was very helpful in clarifying the RMF as well as some practical work on access and utilizing the NIST SP's, FIPS and other resources. He provided demonstrations on how the tools are used and showed us potential attack scenarios. Morrow was very attentive to all class participants. My Information Security background is performing penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and risk assessments. In the past four years I have also focused on program management, cyber policies, and governance. This class allowed me to sharpen and refine my technical skill set. First, let me say how much I enjoyed both courses.  Metka's knowledge is unbelievable.  It was a lot of material and at times my poor old brain got overloaded.  However, last night a sat down and took a couple of the sample test and I'm doing better than I did in class. FEMA

Overall it was a great opportunity. Much more then needed for what I am doing in the real world. I would have liked more opportunities to participate in class with hands on material or subjects. Some of the stretches just seem more like lecture and not actual instruction. While the course is vendor neutral I would suggest not spending so much time discussing the cons of specific vendors and using that time to be more interactive with the class. I thought the instructor was very knowledgeable and did a good job getting through the data. But might be more beneficial to the student to get them more involved and let them finish a thought prior to answer the question for them. By midway I just and others stop answering question. I would consider your training to others who want to grow in this area, I thought all in all the opportunity was rewarding. COMCAST

Overall I had a wonderful experience. Entering the class, my background information security was varied, however in the past few years I focused more on program management, policy creation, and governance. While I originally got into the field performing highly technical functions that was no longer the case. This was a perfect course and program to once again sharpen my technical skill set. While it does provide an end to end process to perform penetration testing, it does allow its students to familiarize themselves with many of the best of breed tools used for ethical hacking, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing. From day one to day five I was thoroughly challenged but not overwhelmed by the breadth and depth of the class. The instructor, Morrow Long, had an obvious understanding of the tools we used and provided great demonstrations on their use, as well as potential attack vectors. Morrow was very hands on and attentive to all class participants. On multiple occasions, he assisted me in overcoming a few stumbling points. The class focused on many of the popular vulnerabilities seen in today's world and showed the practical application of security resources to assist an organization in identifying those vulnerabilities, and understanding their impacts on organizations. Leaving the class I felt that I had increased my knowledge on ethical hacking tremendously. I cannot think of anything in particular that would have improved my experience at Q/EH - Alward - SME instructor

As an Army Information Systems Management (FA53) officer focusing on Cyber Defense, I've had the opportunity to train and certify in several IA/CND specific programs as well as work a myriad of Army Cyber Defense workforce training and development issues.

Having just recently completed the Security University (SU) Qualified Security Analyst (Q|SA) and Qualified Penetration Tester License (Q|PTL) courses I can confidently say that Sondra and her team have built an exceptional program of instruction; capturing the essential elements of security analysis and penetration testing methodologies and delivering them in a clear and concise format in a blended learning environment of lecture and hands-on practical skill development with scenario-based final examinations. SU training techniques are a perfect match for our military cyber defense workforce goals since they not only train the relevant concepts of cyber defense and its CND specialties but also in the case of Q|SA and Q|PTL courses challenge the students to apply those concepts in a "tactical" setting that an actual security analyst or penetration tester might see.

Security University's Q/ISP  Q|SA / Q|PTL program of instruction is impressive and superior to some other training programs in several ways; one of them being the daily hands-on assessment of critical skills being taught. Another was the realistic practical final exam which included a penetration test with a final report that required some in-depth analysis of the resulting sets of data. I spent 30 post-course hours alone on analyzing the data and developing a 32 page report. That's definitely an experience you're not going to get through other training programs that teach a five day curriculum that's predominately lecture based. The Q|SA and Q|PTL courses also expose the students to a wide range of open and closed source automated tools for use in security analysis and penetration testing as well as the built-in assessment and exploitation capabilities of both Linux and Windows based operating systems. I honestly can't understand how we expect to conduct defense in depth across the GiG without our technical workforce understanding basic exploitation, which is exactly what's missing from many other approved certifications. SU equally balances this with methodology and analysis techniques rather than relying on specific toolsets since tools frequently change and are always subject to interpretation of their results.

Many leaders and managers in a resource constrained environment try to meet FISMA compliance by targeting those one-shot, many-kills certifications that are on the DoD 8570.01M chart with little regard for how relevant the training might be for certain 8570 categories. No better example can be given than the inclusion of CISSP as an IAT validating certification. Being a CISSP I can attest that it's a great certification for a security manager as it is wide and deep in several essential bodies of knowledge. But it will not enable a security technician, especially at the enclave level, to secure enterprise environments from a hands-on technical approach nor understand the threat and environment essential to effective defense in depth. Therefore it adds little value for an organization to have an IAT-III CISSP from a technical standpoint, but practically, that person can also fill other roles since CISSP covers everything from IAT-I through IAM-III. Hence, managers focus on CISSP and miss excellent training like Security University's Q/ISP & Q/IAP programs.

Security University training should be a major part of any organization's information security training programs.

I have over 20 years experience in both teaching and information security. I am very particular about both and highly concerned with the decline in real training revolving around the current challenges which we face. I was honestly impressed with both the level of expertise and the instructor's ability to relay this information to the students. This is not simply another idiot boot camp but a well reasoned and directed classroom experience which prepares the student for the real world. I was impressed with the hands-on exercises. These combined with the instructor's elevated knowledge base made the class enjoyable and extremely topical. I have to say that by preparing for the test, I feel that the knowledge I gained will not be forgotten easily (unlike the material in some training courses).

Sondra was an excellent instructor. Not only did she have a great understanding of the subject, but her experience with PKI was very valuable when discussing certain issues. The class was not just a boring lecture for 8 hours a day.I would recommend her to anyone who is serious about learning. She was also very sincere and helpful about answering any questions that came up. I usually don't write emails like this, but I feel it is necessary to express opinions when a class is either extremely good or extremely bad. In this case, I feel that the class was definitely on the extremely good side...
